Ningbo University Health Science Center Hosts the Fourth "Haier Shi Cup" Microscopy Imaging Photography Competition

On December 10th, the award ceremony for the fourth "Haier Shi Cup" Microscopy Imaging Photography Competition, organized by the Major Equipment Platform Center of Ningbo University Health Science Center and the Graduate Student Association of Ningbo University Health Science Center, with sponsorship from Haier Shi Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Biaojigu Biotechnology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd., was held. Gu Xiao, Deputy Director of the Ningbo University Asset and Laboratory Management Department; Zhang Wei, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Health Science Center; Fang Sanhua, Director of the Public Technology Platform of Zhejiang University Medical School; and guest representatives from Haier Shi Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd. and Biaojigu Biotechnology (Hangzhou) Co., Ltd. were invited to attend the ceremony and present awards to the winners. More than 50 participating students attended the ceremony.

Gu Xiao pointed out that the university highly values the work on large instrument sharing. As a sub-platform of the university's large instrument platform, the Health Science Center's Major Equipment Platform provides a good experimental environment and in-depth technical support for teachers and students. He noted that after four consecutive years of organization, the "Haier Shi Cup" Microscopy Imaging Photography Competition has gradually increased its influence and greatly stimulated students' enthusiasm for participation. He hopes that through the competition, students can strengthen exchanges, make progress together, and improve their scientific research skills.

During the ceremony, Fang Sanhua, Director of the Public Technology Platform of Zhejiang University Medical School; Dr. Li Tao, R&D Director of Haier Shi Biopharmaceutical Co., Ltd.; and Dr. Yuan Zhenhuan, an engineer at Olympus (China), delivered reports and explanations on topics such as the development of optical microscopes and their applications in biomedical research, the fascinating microscopic world under the microscope, and the full process solution of EVIDENT microscopy imaging and data analysis. The four first-prize winners shared their experiences in sample processing, shooting techniques, artistic selection and naming, and their feelings about winning the award.

Since its launch, the competition has received widespread attention and active participation from teachers and students across the university, collecting a total of 83 entries. After review by seven experts from both inside and outside the university, nine first prize winners, nineteen second prize winners, and twenty-four third prize winners were selected. The winning works were exhibited in the lobby of Wang Changlai Building of the Health Science Center, receiving unanimous praise from teachers and students.

It is reported that the competition was established in 2021, with increasingly rich content and constantly updated creative perspectives, injecting artistic pleasure into the scientific research of teachers and students. In the future, the Health Science Center will continue to organize such events, providing a platform for teachers and students to showcase their creativity and technical level.
