Ningbo University Health Science Center Hosts AIDS Prevention Lawn Symposium

Author: Yang Chenxi Date: 2024-12-03

On December 1st, the Sunshine 120 Youth Volunteer Association of the Ningbo University Health Science Center held a lawn symposium titled "The 'Invasion' of AIDS, 'Guarding' for You" at the main campus of Ningbo University. The event aimed to help students correctly understand AIDS and enhance their awareness of prevention.

The symposium invited six teachers from the Jiangbei District Center for Disease Control and four international students from the Ningbo University Health Science Center as guests. The teachers provided a comprehensive and objective introduction to the current status and trends of AIDS. During the exchange session, students engaged in conversations with frontline anti-AIDS volunteers and participated in phone calls with people living with AIDS, actively asking questions. In one call, student Wang asked about societal misconceptions regarding AIDS patients. Mr. Sun, an AIDS patient, expressed his hope that society could strengthen education and not demonize AIDS, reducing discrimination against those infected.

As one of the biggest challenges in global public health, the prevention and control of AIDS were also a focal point of discussion among the students. Meili from France introduced French preventive measures and publicity strategies for AIDS and spoke about her changed views on AIDS patients since arriving in China. During the meeting, student Zhang asked Meili how she viewed the preventive measures taken by the Jiangbei District Center for Disease Control. Meili believed these measures were very comprehensive and effective, capable of addressing the root causes of AIDS transmission to some extent.

At the end of the symposium, teachers and students together attached red ribbons with blessing messages to a white flag, symbolizing breaking the "chains" of traditional thinking and adding a bright red touch to the blank canvas of thought.

The Youth Association of the Ningbo University Health Science Center has always been committed to focusing on the development of medical affairs, regularly organizing various health lectures ranging from basic health knowledge to the prevention and treatment of special diseases, aiming to improve students' health awareness and self-protection capabilities. In the future, the Health Science Center will continue to teach medical knowledge in a lively and understandable manner, contributing to the cultivation of excellent medical talents and improving public health levels.
