Xinglin Lecture Series No. 158 - Basic Medical Science Series: Molecular and Cellular Basis of Host Cell Regulation on Toxoplasma Gondii Growth and Differentiation

Author: Date: 2024-12-08

Title: Molecular and Cellular Basis of Host Cell Regulation on Toxoplasma Gondii Growth and Differentiation

Time: December 11, 2024, 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM

Location: Wisdom Classroom 404, Zhi Zhen Building, Ningbo University Health Science Center

Speaker: Long Shaojun

Personal Introduction:

Long Shaojun is a professor (tenured) and doctoral advisor at the School of Public Health of Sun Yat-sen University (Shenzhen). From 2005 to 2018, he conducted research in Czech Republic, United Kingdom, and the United States on the molecular mechanisms of parasitism and pathogenesis of protists such as Trypanosoma, Giardia, Microsporidia, and Toxoplasma gondii. In 2018, he returned to China and served as an "Outstanding Talent" professor at China Agricultural University. He joined Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen Campus, in May 2024. His current research focuses on the molecular and cellular basis of zoonotic parasitic diseases in terms of parasitism and pathogenic mechanisms, as well as research on prevention and control techniques for toxoplasmosis. In recent years, he has published research findings as first author/corresponding author in journals such as Nature Communications (2017, 2023), eLife (2024), PLoS Pathogens (2017), mBio (2023), and Communications Biology (2024), systematically analyzing the unique molecular and cellular biology basis of selective intracellular parasitism and pathogenicity of Toxoplasma gondii.
