Ye Guoliang
Director of the Digestive Disease Center, First Affiliated Hospital of Ningbo University; Chief Physician, Doctoral Supervisor, Ningbo Municipal Renowned Medical Expert, Zhejiang Provincial Model Worker; Recipient of the 10th China Physician Award and National May 1st Labor Medal
Graduating from Zhejiang Medical University's Department of Medicine in 1987, Ye Guoliang has dedicated decades to gastroenterology. He pioneered minimally invasive digestive endoscopy techniques in China, continuously introducing, refining, and innovating over 50 endoscopic technologies. These advancements revolutionized treatments for common digestive diseases such as gastrointestinal bleeding, tumors, obstructions, and cholangitis, significantly improving survival rates for critically ill patients.

In 2011, as a leading gastroenterology expert in Zhejiang, Ye was recruited from Xiangshan to the Affiliated Hospital of Ningbo University School of Medicine. Beyond overseeing critical consultations and endoscopic training in Ningbo, he established a 24/7 emergency channel for severe gastrointestinal bleeding, ensuring timely rescue of critically ill patients transferred from grassroots hospitals. He also personally traveled to remote areas like Zhoushan islands and Yongkang mountains to treat patients too unstable for transfer, often returning to Ningbo overnight to resume work. His expertise attracted patients nationwide.
Advocating early gastric cancer diagnosis and treatment, Ye developed a precision program for prevention, screening, diagnosis, and therapy, achieving a >50% early detection rate—matching international standards. His team ranks among Zhejiang's top in endoscopic resection for early gastric cancer and precancerous lesions. He founded the Ningbo Early Gastric Cancer Collaboration Group, elevating the city's endoscopic capabilities to national prominence. Additionally, he established Zhejiang's first fecal microbiota transplantation lab, successfully applying washed microbiota therapy and attracting complex cases province-wide.
Under Ye's leadership, the team completed Ningbo's first Helicobacter pylori resistance survey, tailoring regional treatment protocols to boost eradication rates. They innovated amniotic membrane transplantation to prevent post-ESD esophageal strictures and introduced longitudinal incision for benign long-segment esophageal strictures—a technique he named and published domestically.

Ye prioritizes mentorship and disciplinary development. At Xiangshan First People's Hospital, he led the department to become Zhejiang's first county-level key discipline. At the Affiliated Hospital of Ningbo University School of Medicine, he elevated the department to Ningbo's Municipal Key Clinical Specialty, Zhejiang Provincial Regional Disease Center, and other honors, hosting eight national continuing education programs. As a Ningbo University supervisor, he has mentored 3 PhDs, 16 masters, and trained three Ningbo Young Talents and two provincial youth committee vice chairs. His "Ye Guoliang Team Renowned Physician Studio" in Yanbian, Jilin, supports remote endoscopy development.
In 2023, to enhance healthcare, Ningbo merged the First Hospital and the Affiliated Hospital of Ningbo University School of Medicine into the First Affiliated Hospital of Ningbo University Health Science Center, with Ye appointed president. Balancing administrative duties, he maintained weekend clinics. After completing the merger in August 2024, he relinquished leadership to focus on frontline care, research, and talent cultivation. Today, he holds over 10 leadership roles, including head of Ningbo's Elite Medical Team, perpetually embodying "truth, goodness, and beauty" through lifesaving work.
