On November 23rd, the annual Graduate Clinical Skills (Imaging Interpretation) Competition of the National Medical Colleges Graduate Alliance for 2024 was held at the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University (Lishui City Central Hospital). The competition was hosted by the National Medical Professional Degree Graduate Education Steering Committee and undertaken by Wenzhou Medical University. It saw participation from more than 150 graduate students and mentors across 30 medical colleges nationwide. Ningbo University's team, consisting of specialized master's degree students in Radiology, Wang Huiying and Wang Xiaofei, along with their mentor, Dr. Li Jianbin from the radiology department of Ningbo University People's Hospital, won the third prize.
This marked the first time the Health Science Center participated in the competition since joining the National Medical Colleges Graduate Alliance. Upon receiving the competition notice, the center delegated the selection of participants to the Radiology degree program. Through on-site assessments, full-time graduate student Wang Huiying (mentored by Pan Yuning) and Wang Xiaofei (mentored by Zhang Jingfeng), both from the class of 2022, were selected to form a team with Dr. Li Jianbin as their guide. The competition consisted of preliminary rounds, semifinals, and finals. After the preliminary round, 30 teams advanced to the semifinals, with the top 15 teams advancing to the finals based on total scores. The semifinals consisted of four sections: "Timed Multitasking," "Following Diagrams/Illnesses," "Instant Judgments," and "Perfection." The finals included "Mandatory Questions," "Buzzer Round," "Timed Multitasking," "Your Description, My Diagnosis," and "Risk Questions," comprehensively testing the contestants' foundational knowledge, clinical diagnostic thinking, and teamwork abilities. The competition was intense and challenging, with contestants analyzing complex and varied medical imaging materials rapidly and accurately, leveraging solid medical theoretical knowledge and seamless team coordination. This was not only a test of skills and knowledge but also a showcase of team spirit and collective intelligence. Our team advanced to the subsequent stages with excellent results, ranking 10th in both the preliminary and semifinal rounds, ultimately securing the third prize after fierce competition in the final stage.
The competition is a significant initiative to implement the Ministry of Education's requirements for deepening the reform of developing academic and professional degree graduate education. It provides a platform for learning and exchange among national medical colleges. Going forward, the Health Science Center will strongly support graduate students in participating in various skill competitions at all levels, aiming to leverage competitions as an opportunity to learn from strengths and weaknesses, further optimize professional talent training mechanisms, and achieve the goal of promoting development through competition.
