On the afternoon of November 11th, the 2024 class of Master's students in Pharmacy at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences visited the Haier Shi Biopharmaceutical Industrial Park (Beilun Xiaogang Park) for an on-site visit and professional exchange, led by the course instructor. Deputy Director Xiao Zhiyong of the Haier Shi Group's Biopharmaceutical R&D Center, along with relevant department heads, received the visiting faculty and students from the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Guided by technical staff, the students first toured the chemical pharmaceutical formulation workshop of Ningbo Dahongying Pharmaceuticals, gaining a deep understanding of the production processes for various dosage forms such as tablets, capsules, and injections. They then entered the Ningbo Changdu Bio 3D Printing R&D Center, where they learned about how 3D printing technology is used to replicate primary tumor tissues and create high-fidelity, high-throughput in vitro tumor models. This innovative technology opened new perspectives in the field of biopharmaceutics for the students. The visit also included the Biopharmaceutical R&D Center, encompassing several experimental platforms such as small molecule compounds, proteins and antibodies, genes and cells, and tumor vaccines. Occupying nearly 2000 square meters, the center is equipped with advanced instruments and equipment valued at 30 million yuan. Finally, Dr. Xiao Zhiyong, the deputy director of the R&D Center, Dr. Hou Xiaolong, the director of clinical research, and Dr. Xie Yakai, the PI, engaged in in-depth discussions with the students in a meeting room. They shared their experiences in drug development and provided valuable advice on the students' career planning, offering guidance for their professional development.
After the exchange meeting, the students unanimously expressed that the event was very meaningful. It not only broadened their professional horizons but also deepened their understanding of the drug development process. Xiao Zhiyong also looks forward to more extensive cooperation with the Health Science Center of Ningbo University in various fields such as scientific research and education. This exchange is a crucial part of the co-constructed graduate course "Pharmaceutical Synthesis Processes and Quality Control Technology." By visiting pharmaceutical workshops and biomedical R&D departments, engaging in in-depth learning and discussions, it aims to equip students with new knowledge and skills in drug research and development. This initiative further promotes the close integration of academic research and industry practice, providing strong support for cultivating high-quality pharmaceutical professionals.
